WHITNEY was incomparable. Cited by many as simply THE BEST (female, at least) voice of recent decades ... a genuine “superstar”, loved by all, adored by many. She is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with sales of over 200 million records worldwide. Houston has influenced many singers in popular music, and is known for her powerful, soulful vocals and vocal improvisation skills. “Remembering Whitney” is about...just that - remembering this great artist, this delightful queen who lived among us, with love.
Musically, Whitney cut across genres of Soul, R&B, Jazz and Pop, blurring those lines as she blurred peoples’ ability to think straight with her astounding voice and soulful delivery. That is, until her tragic demise in 2012. She will always be remembered...hence “Remembering Whitney”.
Musical Director/keyboard-player Sam McNally, has no trouble recognising “GREAT VOCAL TALENT”. He has been around such talent all of his music life, having worked with Peter Cupples of Stylus, John Farnham, Marcia Hines, and more recently Doug Williams, Prinnie Stevens and Diana Rouvas, to name only a few of the best in Australia. Sam has been a regular at NPS, with his own band accompanying great artists like Doug Williams, Diana Rouvas and Jo Elms.
Sam also takes great pride in the opportunity to introduce emerging new artists like Sheena Wilbow (known and loved in Sydney’s Soul/Funk music community). Sheena is a devoted Whitney fan.
This show is going to feature three truly great Sydney-based female vocalists. AND a very special guest appearance as well. As at 20 Feb 2025, not all names are confirmed, but these will be announced very soon. The band led by Keyboardist Sam McNally will be of a standard comparable to that which Whitney herself would demand.
